SI Developer Story
#6. Specs Needed to Get a Job at an SI Company
If you want to get a job at a typical SI company, not one of the big three, you don't need impressive specs.
Things like English proficiency, certifications, and extracurricular activities, which are commonly prepared for job hunting, aren't very important. In SI, the most crucial factor is whether you can practically apply your knowledge. So, if you've learned Spring, MyBatis, HTML, CSS, and jQuery at an academy, you should be able to get a job without much trouble.
The only certification that's truly helpful is the Information Processing Engineer certification. This is because when billing clients for developer manpower, the rates differ based on the developer's level (beginner, intermediate, advanced). One of the criteria used to determine these developer levels is the Information Processing Engineer certification. If you have a four-year college degree, you can take and pass the exam regardless of your major. It's said to be relatively easier than other engineer certifications.
When you transition to freelancing in the future, your rate will also depend on whether you're considered a beginner or intermediate developer. So, it's highly recommended that you obtain this certification while you're still a beginner or shortly after getting a job.
Also, they don't pay much attention to TOEIC scores, other certifications, or extracurricular activities listed on your resume. If you're aiming for a large SI company, you might need to prepare for them. But if you want to join a small or medium-sized SI company, having the knowledge to code a bulletin board using Spring and the Information Processing Engineer certification is sufficient.
Instead of spending time on other specs, why not code another bulletin board?
